Isabel Horgan is a visual and performance artist from Western Pennsylvania. She studied at Carnegie Mellon University, earning a BFA in 2022. She is an MFA candidate in Painting at the Rhode Island School of Design.
I’m interested in relationships to isolation, abandoned things, loaded objects – sometimes appearing as a lack. I write daily, performing my entries often as some sort of fleeting confession. I think of my paintings as witnesses to temporality too – in reflections, atmosphere, decay, and a closeness to the failure of industrial projects that surround us. I paint with egg tempera and oil on traditional grounds. The trickiness of these materials furthers a cyclicality that is intrinsic to my way of making. There is a bond between living and dead, dust and glue.
